King Of The Hill Servers?

Now that we have a new King of the Hill game mode, will there be a new set of servers for these maps? If not, where are these maps going to live? Also, what ever came of the custom maps server?

We're thinking of taking some of the less used servers and transforming them into Custom servers. Also, I think one of the Arena servers might get transformed into a KOTH server, not sure on the numbers for the Arena servers. If not an arena server, then probably one of the less used servers might also get converted to KOTH.

For what my vote's worth, I say merge KotH and Arena. They're similar enough. Plus, if KotH was seperate, it'd mean I'd have to donate for all servers, rather than just two :|

Koth could end up being like pipeline, an endless type of map. I would not merge it with arena.

Ummm. No. KOTH works by having a central control point. The team who doesn't own the control point has a counter, starting at three minutes, IIRC, that starts counting down. Once they take the control point the other team's counter starts counting down. Essentially, you can't have a stalemate like the ones on Pipeline. I do, however, disagree with merging Arena and KOTH. They are fairly separate gametypes that should have their own respective servers.

I like the idea of changing Arena 2 to KotH. I donate for Arena 1 and 2 and wouldn't mind the change in server style at all.

If you read how KotH works, you would think its like Arena. But when you play it, its nothing like Arena.

I vote to just throw a couple of the better KotH maps on the stock server. KotH is fun for a while, but after a few matches you'll be ready to move on. Which is fine, since after 10 mins you'll be able to vote for a new map anyway.

On the note of custom servers, why must all servers be either 100% custom or 100% stock? I say mix and match and get the best of both worlds on one server.

'Cause we call 'em "Stock Maps" and if they weren't running stock maps we'd have to call 'em something else. And I say change one of the Arena servers to be KOTH. After playing KOTH, I have to retract my previous statement. KOTH is like Arena with respawning.

You are correct, you would have to call it something else. That's the idea. Call it "Best of stocks and custom 24/7"?

We have enough servers that aren't used all that often, especially compared to 24/7 2Fort and Stocks 1. We can leave Stocks 1 and just take another server and modify it to a Custom/KOTH server.

We have enough servers that aren't used all that often, especially compared to 24/7 2Fort and Stocks 1. We can leave Stocks 1 and just take another server and modify it to a Custom/KOTH server.

Oooohhh custom/koth server - nice! Two birds w/one stone.

There's a very good chance that KOTH will make it into the Stock Maps servers because it comes with the default mapcycle (which is what we have used for the stock servers since the begging). I removed them for now however since I'm not at home and I can't see how those maps play out.

Might just set all KOTH maps to use a 20 minute map cycle and go back to using Valve's default mapcycle.

We had some fun KotH games going on earlier today. Although the only good map is Viaduct. Sawmill and Nucleus were just weird.

Its pretty fun. Its also spy heaven.

Especially Nucleus. Easy as hell to just camp their spawn as a spy getting 2+ backstabs on a pass. Would love to see these back into the Stock Map servers (or at least one of 'em)

The huntsman oddly enough works pretty well in the new map pack. Yukon's 2nd CP is basicly a headshot spamfest, as well as nucleus, though in nucleus you're limited to not dying by a w+m1 pyro(equip jarate) noob spy(razorback) or odds are you'll get sniped by a sniper in the balcony using a real rifle.

This is just my observation, but it seems like it takes anywhere from 4-10 minutes to complete a koth map. There's the 30 seconds before you can cap it, the 30 seconds-2 minutes it takes to cap, depending on the level of resistance, and then the 3 minutes required to hold it. Also, i have seen a few times that the opposing team will cap the point during overtime, and if they can hold it, that's another 3 minutes. So if you put the map on a 30 min time limit, people can get their fill of it, and move on, without feeling too rushed.

KOTH is back in Stock Maps. Currently using the same 45 minute map timer as all the other maps.

We'll see how that goes.
