Incognegro 1 #1 Posted April 15, 2012 I have been playing on lotus for quite some time now and I noticed that the spectate option was removed a few days ago (at least on the servers I play on). I was just curious to see if this is a permanent change or if players will be able to spectate again soon. Servers I play on: 24/7 Dustbowl #2 - Chicago - 184.154.170.246:27025 24/7 Dustbowl - Texas - 69.162.126.141:27015 Thanks for your time, ~Negro
HeadSh0tBrent 2,156 #2 Posted April 15, 2012 It is to prevent a certain exploit.
Kerberos 3,170 #3 Posted April 15, 2012 There has been no announcement about it yet as i'm aware, though there should be. As far as I know, they're working on fixing the exploit, and Mana has disabled spectate to prevent this exploit to be.. uh, exploited.
- Mike - 2,728 #4 Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) no more spectating because then it'd be too easy to get a demo of aimbot and crit hack abusers /I'm kidding of course. Edited April 15, 2012 by - Mike -
Incognegro 1 #5 Posted April 15, 2012 Thanks for the quick responses Brent and Kerberos. I'm glad that the team is working on fixing the problem and I hope everything works out soon. As for you Mike, you are one silly goose.

As far as I know, they're working on fixing the exploit, and Mana has disabled spectate to prevent this exploit to be.. uh, exploited. Now what could possibly be the fucking problem that TF2 has gone and broke? Not spectating is a serious issue. no more spectating because then it'd be too easy to get a demo of aimbot and crit hack abusers /I'm kidding of course. ^ Exactly, how the fuck do I get demos to get noobs banned when I can't watch them without getting fragged by some W+1 Pyro? Not to be rude but this is as serious problem! People can't fight/not fight bans without evidence.
Kerberos 3,170 #7 Posted April 15, 2012 I completely agree; however if you pm Mana, like I had to, he will in some cases re-enable spectate for you to record the demo.
aoCazzo 0 #8 Posted April 15, 2012 no more spectating because then it'd be too easy to get a demo of aimbot and crit hack abusers /I'm kidding of course. why kid? this is a real problem. take for instance the hacker on dustbowl chicago IP 184.154.170.244:27015 today at 7pm EST going by the name "Slim" who was aimbotting and killing cloaked spies. man, I really would have loved to have reported him. But of course, this is what I've come to expect from Lotus, and the prime reason I no longer donate.
aoCazzo 0 #9 Posted April 15, 2012 edit: know what? not even worth it. lets just leave it at: your community relies entirely on player reporting to control hackers, without specing there is no way to report. you might want to get on that.
Kerberos 3,170 #10 Posted April 15, 2012 I don't see how Lotus is as fault for protecting TF2 players from an extremely unpleasant exploit, which if found out would ruin plenty of games. Take your whining elsewhere. Se7en was bang on edit: know what? not even worth it. lets just leave it at: your community relies entirely on player reporting to control hackers, without specing there is no way to report. you might want to get on that. Re-read the thread; Mana, if approached in the right mannor with a legit reason MAY unlock spectate mode, bitch somewhere else :S
- Mike - 2,728 #11 Posted April 15, 2012 You want to record a good way to find a hacker finding cloaked spies? Record yourself playing as a cloaked spy minding your own business.

Ah...I'll let him know tommorrow morning, I play Follow The Rabbid. XD Still, annoyed that should I end up banning someone, even for 30 minutes, if I make an accident, and someone comes to complain, I have no demo to prove that they were/weren't Hacking. @_@ Thx though. edit: know what? not even worth it. lets just leave it at: your community relies entirely on player reporting to control hackers, without specing there is no way to report. you might want to get on that. Do you even know what Server Administration is? I'm not a Lotus Member, but I can assure you, that they DO have Server Administrators and they do "Do their job". Keep in mind that these people are 1. Volunteers (Meaning they don't get payed, they don't punch a clock) 2. Are not Everywhere Men (Cannot be in ALL servers and how many does Lotus have? Double Digits, possibly triple, some I don't know about. o_o) 3. Cannot act on information given when they do not know about it. (Meaning, they can't ban/kick/etc if they don't know about the problem!) Its not about relying on the community, its that its impossible to have tabs on every fucking server at the same fucking time, 24/7, its too big and too wide to do!So what's the solution? Ask the community, if there are serious issues, such as an aimbotter, then that's where we come in to take demos, follow a simplified format (Which while is a "Rule", its to simplify the process with Need to Know Facts, not opinions and to make it quicker for those that need to be removed, be removed.) Its not being relied on per say, its just there because they don't have (And never will, trust me on that one, and its not due to their recruiting or anything, its just physically impossible) people that will be on every hour of the day on every server. We all have lives, are across the planet, and well, its a game, even worse, majority of it is Team Fortress 2. Instead of bashing the L peoples for fails that can't be fixed, why not click this here, have a laugh, then go outside, and get a life. Or the other option, find a rope, a very strong branch *Or horizontal beam* that's about 10 Feet high, make noose, and hang self? (Just joking...or am I?) Just things to consider. /thread. Hellfire 421 #18 Posted April 16, 2012 I do find it strange that spectating was turned off. But if it was to stop hacking/aim botting then I am for it. Some people are making sound like its a final decision and that spectate will be kept off indefinetly, is this confirmed yet? Was playing on a Badwater server last night and there was a sniper Kujo. That kept on getting on top of the rocks that can only be reached by a soldier/demo/engineer. He was also shooting faster then the normal cooldown there is in between shots. A lot of people on the server were questioning it but couldn't spectate to figure it out. Hope something is figured out soon.

Some people are making sound like its a final decision and that spectate will be kept off indefinetly, is this confirmed yet? It is temporary. If Valve doesn't fix the exploit soon it will be re-added back in for all donors until Valve does fix it. That being said Valve will most likely fix it in the next week or two anyway. Thanks for your patience. Was playing on a Badwater server last night and there was a sniper Kujo. That kept on getting on top of the rocks that can only be reached by a soldier/demo/engineer. If you are talking about the rocks at the first checkpoint a sniper can get up there with some careful jumps. and how many does Lotus have? - Oli - 1,121 #22 Posted April 17, 2012 i think spectate is back, and don't give lotus flack for taking it off, they would have reasons to do so and fully understand making demos would be difficult to do so obviously they were going to bring it back. besides they offer you servers 24/7 and often there are clan members or recruits on every one but you got the balls to still complain at them? without them you wouldn't even have anywhere to play, so stop raging and find other servers if you're that mav u mav bro?

- Oli - 1,121 #24 Posted April 17, 2012 was @aoCazzo should've mentionned that sorry. fair enough, nah some people on the server i frequent mentionned it as well, i found the system of joining the server without queue slightly difficult as well - but i got around it xD i just think when people complain about lotus, they should realise that if not for the time given up and effort on their part, none of this would exist so perhaps considering we're all human that it won't always be public. and like se7en said, often the L members are out there, being admins for the servers and making sure there aren't hackers or anything, there rarely are tbh on the 24/7 2fort uk x33 #1
aoCazzo 0 #25 Posted April 17, 2012 i wasn't actually mad either, just thought it was stupid. I honestly thought it was removed because of people exploiting autobalance, which in the grand scheme of things seemed less important than catching hackers (to me at least). If the exploit was something more nefarious, then I apologize for coming across as butthurt
