Wrecking Balls

To All The Traders Out There.

I think it was pretty clear I was talking about jewelry.

Anyways, I also read that cracked article.

I never read the article. This was just from what I'd worked out and my prior learning of psychology but yeah it's got the gist right :)

Let me give a great example of SS BS, check the S tommislav, it is shown at 0.33 ref, when it's real price is def at least a key. Now why does SS say that? Sharking...that's why, buy low/ sell high, like a few of you already said, check OP, do your own research, make some profit, but don't be greedy, and you will have fun trading, I know I do. I recently promised some1 a hold on a pocket pussy for someone's birthday, now that is how you trade, it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside when you do a fair trade. But when your a shark...you get excited and shit, which is just sad, in the end top end traders make money, but then again if I sell coke lower then the next guy, eventually he's gonna shoot me for it.

Maybe I should put my post in context. Although the creator of the spreadsheet was manipulating prices, that was only a few keys or ref in one way or another in order for him to make a profit. That's not exactly what I was referring to when I was saying that tf2 items were worthless. Ive traded many high tier unusuals ( Burning Kabuto, Burning Modest, just to name a few), and that's where the major price manipulation is ( I manipulated prices and made good tf2 profit).

Tf2 outpost has been filled with people bidding up their high tier hats with fake alt account c/o's , since its inception. This is the theory that if you dont put a b/o on your hat and just fake c/o the shit out of it. People will assume it has value due to all the hype that has been created around the public thread.

Look at Mattie for instance, look at the hype on the 'Team Captain' he actually said that he created those prices, and people PAID THEM. People bought burning TC's at $2500!! Just because of the Hype. When you buys an expensive item as an investment, one must look at the liquidity present in the market to offload that item at the price you paid or higher. One reason that new cars are a horrible investment is that as soon as you drive a new car off the lot it depreciates at least 1/4 of its value. But the liquidity is still there to offload that car quickly if need be, at a loss. Now how many TF2 players (many of which are under the age of 18) would ever be able to afford a hat with a burning effect for $2500 or higher? The answer is only a handful, and once those traders have bought their unusuals, and then try to re-sell them or keep them, how many more will come into a new market and pay ridiculous prices for pixels, very few. So unlike a 'Diamonds' or 'Gold' where one can go to any mom and pop establishment in any city, and offload jewlery or physical commodity at the current market price lickidy split with no problems. Someone who has just spent 2500 on a burning hat, and looking to re-sell it, will find, the liquidity is not there to offload that item. Very high tiers was a phase in TF2, some people won and some lost, but thats the nature of the market. As hacking and valve duping began last year, the market got even more unstable, and more and more large traders moved out and on. Therefore just like the Dutch Tulip fiasco in 1637 people were left looking in hindsight saying :: Nigga did i just pay that much for a tulip ??

The days of high prices in TF2 are gone, and yes buds (which i own a vintage set) are the tf2 version of diamonds. But you can't actually say that something of virtual origin, that is PURELY COSMETIC has any value. Yes a computer program, HAS VALUE since you can do stuff with it, but unless you want to tie a rope around your neck, go to a trade server, and jerk off everytime someone oggles at your cosmetic item WHICH YOU yourself CANNOT EVEN SEE.

Then it has no real value

That is all

All in all, put short: you know what you pay for here. A big pile of ideas, of physical nothingness.

Deal with it.

Either you can spare the money, then do as you please, or you can't, then don't, but stop whining about it.

Case closed.

And this is why I don't do serious trading. If there is something I really want, I talk to Kerberos. Otherwise, well, meh.

In my opinion the people who spend like $2500 on an U.TC remind me of Warhammer players.

"Warhammer Players; more expendable cash than you since 1983"

If any of you are still interested in this thread, there's a reliable site for current prices at http://backpack.tf - the prices are chosen by the community via voting so there's no room for manipulations :) And it looks pretty slick as well.

As much as I like to believe that statement you have just said it's chosen by the community by voting.

Someone could easily manipulate that system by having bots or multiple people all voting the prices to suit them.

Not saying it is, but one HUGE FLAW in your logic there.

That is possible, but the site requires logging in with a Steam account, which is a bit more botproof - and I'm fairly certain premium account in TF2 is required to vote (but don't quote me on that).
