Nano 7,892 #1 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) I'm sure most of you know this already, but here is a very easy way to get item drops instead of logging into a server and idleing.Note: You will have to undo these changes if you want to actually play the game. Just remove the commands you pasted in and everything will be back to normal.1. From the library tab in steam, right click "Team Fortress 2" and choose "Properties"2. Click "Set Launch Options"3. Paste the following: -textmode -nosound -noipx -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw -maxplayers 2 +sv_lan 1 +map "itemtest"4. Start the game.A console box will pop up and nothing interesting will happen. Just minimize and leave it going for hours/days whatever, if you check your inventory you will see items flow in at the same rate as on an idle server. How it works (simple version): You are creating a local game, hosted by your computer, without any video, where items will drop on a special map included in TF2.. With the new update last week, this method no longer works. Edited July 16, 2013 by ProLoser

point 2,268 #10 Posted November 7, 2012 Unusual quality is an item quality used on hats and some miscellaneous items with a special attached particle effect. Currently, there are 31 total effects. Nine of these effects (Cloudy Moon, Eerie Orbiting Fire, Flaming Lantern, Cauldron Bubbles, Knifestorm, Misty Skull, Harvest Moon, It's A Secret To Everybody and Stormy 13th Hour) are limited Halloween effects that will not be obtainable again until further notice. The only methods of obtaining an Unusual hat are by potentially unlocking a Mann Co. Supply Crate with a Mann Co. Supply Crate Key or via trading. The chances of uncrating an Unusual hat are about one in one hundred or 1%.
Ollie 56 #11 Posted November 7, 2012 Oh, I even wrote that message incorrectly lol I meant to say hopefully this will help me with weapon drops for me to craft ref so I can then trade my way to an unusual, but even now, I don't see that happening!
H7YCH 50 #12 Posted November 7, 2012 lol I kinda got what you were saying Ollie. But thanks for the helpful tip, especially as I have an idle account that regularly gets booted out so I have to go back in over and over. p.s. I have uncrated TWO unusuals in my time so its not that difficult and I havent even been playing for a year yet, so if I can do it, anyone has a chance too! DEATH STRIKE 573 #13 Posted November 11, 2012 I have only unboxed 2 out of (and I am not kidding) 400+ crates. Different for each. I think Valve know I have money .

I only have unboxed 1 unusual, and it was in one of my very first crates I ever unboxed. then I got hungry..and unboxed many many more... and never got a second unusual. there are reports out there with ppl unboxing 600 crates and not even getting 1 unusual. it's all random. - Mike - 2,728 #15 Posted November 11, 2012 They say it's a 1% chance to unbox an unusual, but you could open 1000 and still never unbox one... Gambling at its finest.
