Sari♥ 49 #1 Posted November 8, 2013 As many of you know, Youtube has recently changed the comments section, meaning that you now have to be logged into a Google+ account in order to write a simple comment (you also have to be logged in just to check your inbox). Over the years, there have also been some other major changes that many people have not liked, such as the channel layouts and the five star rating being replaced with the like system (to be fair, I kind of like the like system).Personally, I feel like Youtube has been going downhill ever since Google took over. Back in about 2009-ish, it was just a simple "make a video and let people rate/comment" kind of website. Now, it seems like it's been trying too hard to become a "mainstream" site by forcing users to make Google+ accounts. The old layouts had everything on them, while the new ones force you to click different links just to see your profile comments. Some say that the new comments will stop trolls since they have to make a new account just to comment. But now you can make comments pretty much endless, which I have a feeling will be used to annoy others in the future. What are your thoughts (not sure if anyone here even uses Youtube)? ___ 857 #2 Posted November 8, 2013 I would say that I am an avid user of YouTube who regularly consumes multiple hours of video content a week (70-ish subscriptions). I must say that I can't stand Google horrendously stuffing Google+ down people's throats, it's just another one of their products that I have no completely no interest in and it really doesn't have much in common with YouTube anyway. I have just stopped commenting on videos entirely now, I usually only quickly browse them for the occasional witty retort or if I'm looking for song name etc. The like/dislike system in my view is pretty good, the only flaw is when people get confused over videos of news of deaths or tribute videos. They're not sure whether to like in tribute, or dislike over his/her/their death. There is also the case of whether it should be strictly quality based, or whether the content is to your liking, such as a discussion on a controversial topic. Oh and Comedy/Geek Week & the Music Awards were all pretty much disasters. Not much point denying it. I am a fan of the creator spaces both in the UK and the USA enabling well established YouTubers to make better quality content as that constitues the majority of the videos I watch. Btw my favorite channels are CorridoorDigital, FreddieW, SxePhill, Vsauce, Star_ and many many more...
Reisen 1,973 #3 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) That's all. Those dumbasses removed comment lenght. Now everyone can spam SUPER long comments + the style looks like shit. Why do they care anyway? It was so nice back then, and from update to update it sucks even more + The Google+ thing... I can barely find words for how annoying it is. I see at least 50 Chuck Norris, 10 Arnold Schwarzeneggers and 3 Hitlers a day. They should seperate it again and remove those annoying 20 second ads that you can't skip. I DON'T CARE ABOUT MILK FOR BABIES, I WANT TO WATCH A VIDEO OF A DUDE PLAYING HORROR GAMES. *madface* Edited November 8, 2013 by Marisa

But now you can make comments pretty much endless, which I have a feeling will be used to annoy others in the future. What are your thoughts (not sure if anyone here even uses Youtube)? I really dislike the way they are pushing Google+ in everything. It's not my fault that their poor service is underachieving and they have to inflate its number of users by stuffing it into every single product they have, from Play Store (which made it mandatory to have a G+ account in order to review apps, just one of the thing I am glad I dodged by switching to Windows Phone) to YouTube. While there's still a way to keep your existing channel name it involves getting a public page for your channel on G+, but since the other option is to lose the ability to comment I'd rather do that. I've had a YouTube channel since 2007 (I changed accounts in the meantime so the one I'm using now is from 2011) and since then I've learned to live with Google's quirks. Few know that Google took over YouTube way back in 2006, while I was still on ISDN, and without Google's support there's no way it would've evolved to what it is today. While running the most bandwidth-heavy site on the planet definitely isn't an easy job, making changes which don't appeal to your users is fucking dumb - from their outdated sub-box design (I've seen porn sites with better video placement) to horrible copyright system. The new comments, meh, retards are still going to be retards no matter what. The lack of ability to see the votes on a comment is pretty depressing since when you update a piece of software you generally want to add features, not remove them, though. In my opinion they should just take a peek on the source of probably the best commenting system in existence, Reddit and see how it's done. also, 115 subscriptions here. STAR_, TotalBiscuit, GuudeBouldertits, EthosLab, Sp4zie are my favs definitely.

I also like the like system, it's a bit better. Channel layout was a it annoying, cn't rlly see my background image anymore :/ AGRREEEED on the complicated way to find your inbox!, now you need to go to your youtube settings, then to advanced, and THEN you find it. NOW they even changed it so the weird lay out looking comment on the google + screen... Also seen the endless comments, they sure are annoying, and the way it is shown it;'s a reaction...blergh... FOR EVERYONE who is against, someone started a petition against the recent changes. http://www.change.org/petitions/google-change-the-comment-section-back-to-the-way-it-was (lol, ponies also start usefull petitions :3 )
- Mike - 2,728 #7 Posted November 8, 2013 But you don't have to be on Google+. I commented on a couple videos and it ASKED me if I want to use my Google+, said no, comment still went through.

Ultimate 702 #9 Posted November 8, 2013 145 subscriptions here... I have to agree with what everybody else has said. They layout changes, while unnecessary, are generally okay. But forcing their irrelevant network on everybody is plain annoying.

Nano 7,892 #11 Posted November 10, 2013 I never left comments anyway, so that part doesn't really affect me. I just wish they'd stop asking me to put my real name on my channel... Now THAT grinds my gears.
luop90 4,400 #12 Posted November 11, 2013 wow I actually found a Video with the old comment section. I love how every comment is about how google + can go fuck itself. Heres the link- the guy has probably got 99% of his views off of it. IDK how he has the old comment section but its awesome. (And its something you can listen to if you really want to) LINK
+JB. 4,800 #13 Posted November 11, 2013 I miss this Youtube. The new layout sucks, everything does. Did you Save This Screenshot years ago because Youtube might get changed in a really Bad Way and the Layout would become ugly and confusing, because google wants to make it's unsucsessfull New product more popular? Crystalitar 1,649 #16 Posted November 14, 2013 One of the guys who "helped develop the new system" Has posted a vid, and i know it can possible be a troll, but i have reacted in seriousness, because i just want to let my thought free. You can see the comments (hopefuly) under it. But i will qoute my negatiive/positive list here again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjvViX7RuoA My reply with the list: "Wrong mindset, seems the mayority has that then :/ You want to see my fair view? I shall point some positive and negative sides. PositiveYu can reply without opening new tabYou can tag everyone. (wich can also be viewed as negative to spam people with notifications if people are against a move.)NegativeYou force people to have google+ accounts to be able to communcate with each other,Some people can't even view comments anymore.Half page longcomments/spam (the limit could be a little bit increased, but this is too much).Viewing the newest comments, and most populair, while you also NEED to see the reactions now, or even where it was reacted to.You get (mostly) irrelevant notifications if someone reacted to the same comment you reacted to, or even in the same thread.Changes i would be happy withLayout of the old comment section. BUT with a limited increased text size, and still the tagging. The comment notification of now, but easier removal of reactions in that inbox.and would also be hapy to see those notifications still in my youtube inbox together with the older reactions i got.Communcating with reactions from stand alone youtube channels (otherwise you really take the freedom away)I tried playing around but can't find any option anymore, it's like a maze, so making it simplier would be nice. (like a direct link to my YT inbox instead of going to settings and further.)"
