looking for feedback on using Steam and Twitch apps on a tablet

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get feedback from people on using the Steam and Twitch apps on a tablet. The problems I'm having might be related to not being familiar with apps and how they're "always on".

I find with Steam, it's always on, even if I exit the application. So for example I can close the app, but then people still message me and it just pops up and starts again...I'm looking for a way to maybe use it without appearing to be online or to not have it sat there in the background clearly telling people I'm online even when I might be asleep. It could be I should just turn the tablet off!

With Twitch, it's just a disappointing user experience mainly. For example, if a stream/channel is offline when I search for it it shows no result for it rather than showing me the stream/channel and maybe telling me it's offline. Also, I follow some streams on my profile when I use the website, but when I use the app and I look at the streams I follow, and they're not there - its empty.

I'd appreciate anyone else's experiences of using these two apps, or any game related apps they recommend :)

Set it on fire, won't be on then.

We need gasoline Domino. You can't set plastic on fire. :P

I use the steam app a lot, and the easiest way to "close" it is to change the mode in the settings. You can have it make you online 24/7, or just when you are in the app/recently closed it.

I just tried Steam on tablet

Once I closed app, I was still "online on phone" on Steam, then away and then this "online on mobile" magically disappeared.

So I´m guessing after some time of not using app on tablet it turns off.

I have options: log out and go offline, so try that?

The tablet Steam app kept turning itself on sometimes when people messaged me, but not all the time. I got rid of it in the end, it doesn't do anything that the mobile website doesn't already do.

The steam app stays open on my phone, just running in the background and telling people I'm online.

The only way I can close it is to go to task manager and kill it in there, then it goes away forever.

What I don't like about the app is, everytime I open a chat, either from the app or from the notifications it opens a new task. So I end up with steam chat beeing open like 10 times for one person.

App indeed works great, I use it all the time smile.png

If you want it gone when you close it you'll have to kill it in the app manager.

I've been using both apps for a long time. From my experience the Steam app is what you'd expect from steam, complete shit. The whole "always online" thing isn't exactly true, you just stay online if you've recently used the app, I don't know how long but I would assume a couple of minutes.

The twitch app is pretty bad as well, the interface is horrible and the search function is poop, but if you do find a channel that's online it's pretty decent as long as you're connected to wifi and don't have to watch in 140p quality.

Just my two cents.

^ This is pretty much my experience.  Who the chuff designs an app which only finds channels which are currently online?  Ridiculous.  Sometimes you want to watch old casts....still there is always YouTube.

On Android the twitch app has undergone a major overhaul recently, for me it works flawlessly. The Steam app on the other hand hasn't gotten any updates in over 2 years and it shows.
