Computer help

Recommended Posts

Eyo!

So yeah, I was discussing this w/ Minia last night, but I might as well bring it public for more help tongue.png

So with my new computer build, I've been having problems, specifically with the graphics. Whenever I try to launch TF2 / some other game the screen goes black and the monitor says "No signal detected." Also, when I go into fullscreen mode (like on youtube, etc) the screen goes white (and has lines running down it), but I can still hear the audio. And finally, sometimes randomly the screen will go black with the "No signal detected" shown up on the monitor. Rebooting the computer manually is the only way to undo this.

Known things-

  • Going into safe mode fixes these problems (in fact, I'm currently typing this up in safe mode). (Well, I can't check the TF2 one, since TF2 won't launch in safe mode, but everything else works).
  • All drivers are up to date / installed. (Proof- here.)
  • I've rechecked the power cables to video card, all are plugged in.
  • I'm running the AMD Radeon R9 200

Any ideas?

Is your DirectX and GPU up to date? Any special start up commands for the game?

Have you tried using the AMD utility program to look at the settings?

DirectX is up to date (11)

All GPU drivers are up to date (thats what the screenshot is).

I've tried running the game all stock, and with my usual launch commands. None worked.

Whats the link for the program?

I think it is called AMD Catalyst. The equivalent that I'm used to for nVidia is Geforce Experience or something. It just manages updates, profiles, and settings.

Looks like from the image you have the Catalyst though.

Which type of cables are you using to connect the GPU and monitor? You did plug it into the GPU and not the mobo integrated gpu right?

Also, do you have the brand's gpu drivers instead of the AMD? I'm no tech wizard, but maybe roll back drivers to something more stable?

I've used HDMI and VGA, neither solved the problem.

It is plugged into the GPU, not the mobo.

I've used both the drivers that game on the disc w/ the video card and the ones that AMD gives on their website, same story, nothing sad.png

I would say go find a DVI cable that would match your monitor then. Other than that an RMA might be in your future with the GPU.

Is your BIOS up to date?

All the drivers in the mobo and GPU are up to date, checked with various software to confirm.

Make sure all your drivers are up to date, not just for your gpu but also your motherboard. AMD Catalyst is a software that can keep your drivers for your gpu up to date and optimize your settings. Try run it and let it do its thing.

It sounds like an issue with your video card or it's driver.

But just to be sure try running this:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19792

Does it pass?

If so try running this:

http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

That will stress your video card. Try windowed and fullscreen. See what happens.

Also to be sure it's not your monitor doing weird things. Try taking out the video card and plugging the monitor straight into the motherboard. Do all these issues go away? I think you said earlier that it worked fine this way. Which would point things back to your video card once again.

It says everything is fine. Drivers up to date / settings are good.

It works fine when I use the mobo, none of the errors here are existant.

I'll run those two later tonight when my internet isn't screwy tongue.png

---Update---

Pass on the CPU test

Running the GPU software now...

---Update #2---

Not quite sure what to think. Ran the entire test w/o having any problems, here's the score-

Any ideas on what this means? I'll attempt to launch TF2 in about a minute, but it ran the entire test w/o a problem.

---Update #3---

It launched TF2 w/o errors. Don't know who to thank here. I guess lets see how it goes...

I have a similar model on my custom PC, an MSI Radeon R9 200, so actually basically teh same model :3 Check to make sure everything is wired correctly, make sure everything in ur build is compatible :o It might be a problem with ur mobo, gpu, or even your monitor.

That crossed my mind.  It's been a long time since I built my own machine..going off what you've said I'd normally try alternative cables, try your old graphics card or a different one to see if they work fine, try a different slot on your MB, basically swap out/check individual elements until you identify the issue...no doubt you're already doing this though.  Hope you sort it soon...shame your new machine isn't up to speed yet :/

It turned out the problem was that the BIOS wasn't up-to-date, even though 3 different software said it was xD A 1 minute fix to something that was causing me hours of stress :P
