Lotus Minecraft Server?

I wouldn't be for a vanilla server, I prefer CraftBukkit servers by far. They allow for very nice and simple game-changing plugins including LWC, allows players to lock blocks, chests, furnaces, doors etc... BookShelf also allows players to store Books, Books/Quills, Maps, Paper and Records in bookshelves. Essentials is an essential plugin that I adore, it manages your server configuration, chat and protection although I highly prefer LWC to essentialsprotect. 

 

Also note, Mana does not own minecraft and from what I recall in chat last time he played it was 4 years ago. I think when it comes financially I don't think Mana would purchase minecraft or a server for a small proportion of lotus members. I think at this point it may be nice to pull out a team from experienced minecraft players. I've had both JB and Ultimate approach me about this since we all have experience in running mc servers including myself for over 2 years.

 

I currently have a dedicated server in the EU which I've been messing around with looking at options for a lotus server which I'm more than happy to host on the server and I am willing to hear and listen to you guys and get some aid from volunteers.

 

Note this: NOTHING is official. This is just an idea as it stands, nothing more.

Be proud to realise bukkit servers allow for rollback plugins such as the one I use called coreprotect. It logs every action a player makes and it can be rolledback erasing any grief or theft that ever took place. If you had it, Brent's dojo would have been saved. Think about that for a minute.

Oh I don't need to think about it. 

I could spent 5 hours a week mining materials and building a huge house. 

There could be 3 outcomes that come to mind, with anyone except mana controlling it. 

1: Open to grief, regardless of what plugins you have.

2: I carry on winning with my house

3: Should you ever get disciplined in lotus, or (touch wood) kicked, the server goes too and I lose everything.

 

I would fear non of the 2 bad ones above if Mana has the server. It's a risk for anyone but mana to have it. And I just can't support it. 

 

I love the idea of using plugins, I'd suggest factions, world-border, world-guard and Hawkeye just to start off with, with maybe deadbolt, and chest-shops as side-extras.

Anyways, I don't care who has the complete control on the server. I'd support and help with it either way.

I will only dedicate the server to lotus if both Mana and a majority of lotus members support it. I see the risk that is potential by someone other than Mana hosting the server, but seeing how Mana hasn't got minecraft nor seems to have much interest in the game itself I'm not sure if this could work out at all. If it does, I am more than happy to work alongside a team of lotus regs/members to come up with a server that would be best for all those interested in playing minecraft. I'm more than happy to have it set-up on my server and create other multi-craft or filezilla logins for anyone willing to contribute to the server management.

 

Also note I am only offering my skill and experience that I have gathered over the years, but I am happy to offer my server if it comes to be useful. 

 

Anyways I have been working on this myself and I have had Ultimate and JB come to me with their experience, I wouldn't think there would be any problems between ourselves to work together and manage a lotus server but until anything is guaranteed I will not make my server official.

Not only was Domino abused on the server and seriously off-put from even reconsidering joining your server, but people who perhaps should not have certain powers, have powers. I have no idea what permission system you have set up there, but giving recruits OP and world-edit is absolutely absurd. I mean this with as little disrespect to Teddu as he knows I love him, but, it just seems insane. 

 

When I joined, the "homes" people had built were completely creatively built. No means of survival mode were seen there at all. which leaves the discussion whether we actually want a survival map, or creative. 

 

I've sent a request to the staff and will await their response as a group, then I'll work on an official lotus server, and if it's successful, hand it over to Mana.

Domino was upset not about the server but the fact teddu was pissing her off whilst she was trying to build. We were all in a skype call, so it has nothing to do with the server. Also people can survive if they wish to, I prefer building in detail, also note if you joined you only saw a fraction of what the map is like. I suggest you reconnect when I am on and I'll set your perms so you can have a look around for yourself. Also, what does it matter if people build in creative or survival? They have the option and can do as they wish, I call that freedom of choice. And that isn't a bad thing. As for WorldEdit, well we can discuss that once a team has been put up or Mana has decided what to do about this. What permissions players will have can be discussed there, but remember my server is as you said, MY server. It does not represent in any way the final product.

Not just that; It should only be used from an administrative perspective. World edit can be an unstable tool, one wrong typo can crash a server (trust me... I know). The one number difference for water and lava, you could turn an entire ocean into lava by using one typo. It's horrendous. So strictly speaking, World edit should only be used for administrative purposes and not for fun. Such as rolling back grief, restoring chunks, etc.

I would not use it as an anti-griefing tool, I am a builder. I would use it for my own purposes in any builds I wish to create. Again I can see the risk, but I do not believe it is something that we should keep from players. You talk about typos, admins make typos aswell. And a good backup is always available if a good anti-griefing plugin is unable to rollback any damage. I have yet to see a server map need a makeover due to a worldedit error. Also note you can easily setup permissions to restrict worldedit commands and regions. 

 

We shall see what people want once a sub-forum is created and polls have been sorted.

• We have a centalised town, where we can have a warehouse that we can leave supplies for others to use
• People shouldnt be able to teleport to others without permission
• People dont grief each other. 

I enjoy farming, forestry and mining. I never build anything save four walls and a bed - the rest of my stuff I would like to dump into a warehouse for others to use and build cool shit with. I am happy to feed the town and supply minerals etc, in return for people not fucking my shit up. 

 

I once 'lived' in a small hut next to a guys castle (700 x 700 square castle) which he built 70% of with my smelted cobblestone. I love seeing what other people build, I cant be arsed with the creative side. I would however love to assist in supplying the materials required for your projects. We could possibly use signs for people to request specific items. 

 

Too many minecraft servers are just individual people doing their own stuff, would be cool to actually work as a team and do stuff.

In a discussion with Kerb we came to a conclusion that to suite every one it would be a good idea to hold more than 1 normal world. Using a permissions plugin such as Groupmanager you can set different perms in different worlds, this would allow us to set up one world for creative and another for survival making most happy. http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/multiverse-core/

Teleportation will depend, if you are an admin it is only natural you are allowed to teleport to people without their permission but those who aren't can use essentials' /tpa asking for the user to tp to the specified player. The player can then either use /tpaccept or /tpdeny. Can be easily done.

I don't really want worldedit to be available for normal building, or terraforming. It makes everything less impressive when you know that it was made by world edit in a minute or so.
