Party Hat Trouble

On occasion I've had players tell me that my party hat looks like a giant error sign on my head reguardless of what server I'm on. I'm not using any special color changes to it other then the green option given through the menu. Also, some of the other guys told me that when you disguise as a spy the hat shows up on the ground instead of my head and it gives me away. When I taunt and see myself in the third person, I see the hat on my head, but everyone else says its a huge flashing error sign.

The error sign is a problem on their end, not yours.

As far as the hat on the ground goes, I've personally never seen this happen. I'm sure Viper and his crew would be complaining if it was.

I haven't seen the hat on the ground thing yet, but if other players are seeing an 'Error' its more than likely because they aren't allowing downloads of custom content. There's a dropdown at the bottom right of the 'Multiplayer' tab from which 'Allow all custom files from server' must be selected in order for the hats to download and show properly. Same reason they may see a giant 'Error' instead of the horse-cart on Badwater.

Only if you have installed TF2 a while ago. It has been fixed in some update but for some reason wasn't applied to most people who had TF2 already installed.

If you still see the hat on the ground for the pyro. Delete your steamapps folder and just redownload it all.

Several people have said that they can see invisible spies because they see a floating error, due to the party hat. Is there anyway to turn off the hats?

I'm one of those people. I feel sorry for those spies, but I can't help but shoot at them, I mean they are going to go backstab me or destroy my stuff.

People who see errors will soon be autokicked on join. They have their cl_downloadfilter set wrong. (It should be cl_downloadfilter nosounds).

I wanted to bring up the Party Hat trouble again since it's still going on.

Basically people who have custom downloads off see an error sign over invisible spies. I recorded a demo that shows Viking17801981 running across the room going straight for me, despite me being inviable as proof.

I wouldn't say he was cheating on purpose, as his all of 4 kills were on spies, plus this happens to me about once per day.

Most of the time people will kick these no do gooders, but not always. Is there anyway to fix this party foul? The party hats are awesome, so anyway to have an auto kick for people who have downloads off?

Also, Khan6850, a lotus recruit, did a spec on Viking. He says it looked like Viking was just walking around and decided to shoot randomly and I happened to get shot. Throughout the fight, I stay inviable and attempt to hide. Normally I can get away, especially from a low skilled engineer, but he manages to keep hitting me. Khan says it's luck. I'll let you decide.

I was getting ERRORs the other morning and I saw them over our own cloaked spies quite a few times. I think Mana plans on adopting a "download the party hat or (forcibly) GTFO" server policy?

I thought I had seen Mana post that somewhere. I'm just hoping he puts it into effect soon. In the past I haven't gone spy very much, but it's actually pretty fun when you get decent at it.

Yeah, I have been playing as spy a lot more than usual lately, and I have had quite a few instances where there was absolutely no way my cloak was disrupted yet I get killed by soldiers and pyros halfway across the map(when none of my team is anywhere nearby). At first I just dismissed it as my poor spy skills, but then I was killed by the same pyro three times in an open area with no other players anywhere near me, so there was no way my I could have been seen without the error. Makes it a pain in the ass to play spy when you have no idea who might be able to see through your cloak.

I personally have not felt that people can see me while I'm cloaked, but I only donated again yesterday so maybe I am in for some nasty surprises. I was playing spy today during lunch and some engineer chased me down under suspicious circumstances but I figured I just bumped him or something. I will be paying closer attention.

I definitely would love an option to turn off all "donator flare" on myself though.

Why not just turn on custom downloads and stop cheating? I think you should be banned for doing this on purpose.

I find that letting everyone on the server know that you are cheating, and then voting to kick you solves the problem. If you come back, then I call a ban. Works wonders.

Although if all else fails, I just join your team.
