Spy Checking As Medic

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else use the Blutsauger to occasionally check for spies? Since the Blutsauger starts adding health as soon as you hit an enemy (including disguised spies), to a medic that is as a clear a signal that a spy is running around than if a pyro lit the spy on fire. If someone looks suspicious and there is a lack of pyro spychecking, I will hit them with a few needles to be sure and then go back to healing. I don't rely on that technique, but it only takes a second and it can be pretty beneficial.

Spy checking should be done with ALL classes. In fact, spy checking should not be a conscious and dedicated effort. You should just have a sense of them. I know which one is a spy 90% of the time unless of course they come from behind and I dont see them.

Yeah, I needle people a few times in the heat of battle when I'm a Medic. Wastes a couple seconds, but that's usually when Spies move in for the kill.

Worst idea ever. It's people like you that let me die when I'm on fire shouting medic. Seriously, just try to run though the person. If you can't run though them, they aren't a spy. This technique is much faster than taking the time to pull out the gun, fire a few rounds, pull out the healing gun, and put it on me. O, and you'll probably want to reload because if you do find yourself being chased by a pyro, those few rounds can make all the difference.

Tip to everyone, just run though everyone you see. So much easier

I'm very rarely not looking for spies. When I'm not, I get stabbed. Blutsager is a great way to get a ranged check on a spy (provided you can actually aim) if there's nobody else around you to check for you (like a pyro or whoever you're healing.) It's WAY safer than running into them with the saw, or thru them just for collision, especially if the player isn't close to you. If they're close enough to you to do that, you're probably already dead.

Ubersaw is superior, I'd say. Blutsauger is useful when you're far away from a suspect who's running away from you and you have low health. In otherwords, rarely. Most spies aren't smart enough to revolver a good Medic, though the blutsauger will probably win. In the case with the ubersaw, you can not only see if they're a Spy immediately through watching your uber meter climb a fourth (and ultimately a half if you get two ubersaw hits to kill him), it also coincides with the running-through-teammate spy checking technique. Also, you don't have to waste time reloading your blutsauger and could instead be using those two extra seconds to heal someone.

If the goal is to kill the spy alone, a medic might be better served using the saw. I can see how that makes sense. But getting right up next to a spy is what I'm trying to avoid. Whether I as a medic kill the spy or someone more damaging does makes little difference, the point is just calling out that a spy is around. Even knowing that, I've still killed more spies (and everyone else) with the blutsauger than the saw. Getting kills with the saw and not dying is much more reliant on luck, whereas using the gun is far less so.

And the idea that any competent medic would let players die by trying to uncover spies instead of healing doesn't make sense. I've never purposely decided to let a player die so I could go chase spies. The amount of time it takes to shoot some needles, uncover a spy, and get back to healing is negligible, because at any point when healing a player is truly critical I wouldn't be shooting needles anyway.

Running head first into a spy as a medic with an ubersaw is a bad idea. Whenever I try something like this I get facestabbed or I get a crit saw and win... Usually facestabbed.

Especially since I primarily play on Stock #2 so I won't get those lucky crits and it may take me 2-3 stabs to kill the spy when the spy may only take one stab.

One thing that's always annoyed me about the ubersaw is you don't know when you're charged without having to look. When you're healing, it's much easier to see because of the audio cues. I think the medic should say "I am fully charged" when he does his charging hit with the saw.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think he _does_ say that he's fully charged.

He only says it when his meter is full as he is healing. When he gets 100% due to the ubersaw, he doesn't say anything.

You always own me with the ubersaw when I'm spy. I'd say melee vs the spy is still the best option despite the risks.

Maybe you just suck as spy. Was it you who I used to cook months ago? It amused me, you kept running into me fires! Spah steak is good for you.

Sure, I suck as spy, but that doesn't mean Miyari isn't good at spy checking and ubersawing. Let's give her some credit too here.

Oh yeah, I spycheck as medic, those rare timesI actually play. Because I know as a spy, medic is prime target number one.

But I still hate medics who just wont' accept that I'm not an enemy spy, leaving me to say "HEY YOU SHITEATING FUCKTARD, LOOK OVER HERE, I'M NOT A GODDAMNED ENEMY SPY AND I'M BURNING TO DEATH AFTER SAVING YOUR ASS!"

Unless there's a Keg, right.

Ahaha, like this poor spy we had yesterday on Steel who was doing a totally upfront job of holding his own on defense somehow yet had to stand right in front of the other medics on our team and beg them for healing over voice comm while they stood there and spammed needles into his face. Good stuff.

Yeah, fucking noob bitch medics those are.

I don't backstab keg. I revolver him. It's simultaneously a mark of respect and an act of humiliation.

I'm not trying to brag that I'm the greatest player ever or anything, but I have yet to die when trying to run though a spy. Although I'm referring to situations when people are bunched up, such as in the alleyways of dustbowl round 3. Not running across the map to the other team's battlements in 2fort.

ugh, another scene, which happened multiple times. I was finishing off killing someone (shot two scouts to death with a revolver, right in front of the shitty noob medic and instead of healing me (I had like one HP left) the fucker went up and then attacked me with his bonesaw. Then, still not healing me, he wnt on to heal a heavy that was already at full health! People like that need to be banned. In the face. With a shotgun.
