redruM_13 17 #1 Posted March 29, 2009 My wife is going to go crazy she says unless I switch to headphones. Does anyone know of a good mid dollar range 5.1 headphone with mic that works great with TF2. I tried just browsing the internet but just get confused. h3gi 5 #2 Posted March 29, 2009 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....amp;x=0&y=0 I always go to newegg first when researching computer parts. Fast, easy, good prices, and unbeatable shipping speed. I'm not sure why you need 5.1 specifically, but that's what they have.
Oww My Nose 19 #3 Posted March 29, 2009 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16826504004 i have a pair of these, and they do the job pretty well
Miyari 33 #4 Posted March 29, 2009 http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/produ...?transid=502141 This is what I'm using. NewEgg doesn't carry them, but Amazon.com does, though I bought them from some random retailer that I found using Froogle or Google Product Search or whatever they call it now, so you can find a pair cheaper than the MSRP, but probably higher than you want to pay. I've gone through way too many 30-50$ range headsets and decided just to buy something I know I wouldn't be replacing any time soon. These things are absurdly comfortable, I can sit around with them on and not even notice it (usually extended use of headphones will make my ears hurt.) The sound is freaking amazing, especially for TF2, which allows me to hear quite well exactly where sounds are coming from and delicate sounds such as footsteps or spies uncloaking. It's worth the extra money, to me, to fuck up someone else's backstab. ^^ Consider it, punk! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16826502007 These look nice, the sound is probably great though I had previously owned a Turtle Beach headset (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826502009) and it was a fucking disaster and a half. Despite that, they were at least are comfortable and sound good. I had to return two headsets to them (first time, the paint was peeling off, second time the paint was peeling and the headband wasn't properly adjustable) and although I'm pissed I had to do that, I have to give them some credit for at least sending me new ones (though not reimbursing for shipping.) Those would probably be great, as they don't suffer from the shit I had to deal with from mine (a buggy external sound card device, zero x64 Vista support and shitty drivers.) Rydawg 14 #5 Posted March 30, 2009 i use a creative set, great sound but more important to me is comfort. Too many headphones out there crush your ears.

Spartan_0214 18 #9 Posted April 2, 2009 i use a creative set, great sound but more important to me is comfort. Too many headphones out there crush your ears. I use the Creative Fatal1ty Professional Series headphones (not the USB ones). They're comfortable, the sound is great, the only problem is the cord's a weird size. When I'm at college I wrap the cord around the back of my laptop and doesn't go very far, but when I'm back home the cord snakes around the floor and then comes up to the headphones. If I'm sitting in my chair I'm just fine, but any time I have to move I either have to stretch awkwardly or avoid the tripping hazard. Otherwise, these headphones are amazing. And a steal at 20 bucks during Creative's Recession Buster sale they had over the summer (during which I also bought the Creative Fatal1ty Mouse). OVER9000JEWGOLDS 0 #10 Posted April 2, 2009 It builds character and improves your game. When you play 5+ games with Miyari you learn exactly how much your ears and/or headphones can hold up against some deafening shrieks of miyari when she gets stabbed or sniped It builds your physical character and improves your overall hearing abilities

Just need a cylindrical object in her vocal cord.
Melissia 7 #12 Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Yes, but one longer than yours. I doubt a three inch long cylindrical object could get down that far. Edited April 3, 2009 by Melissia
FunkyFresh 68 #13 Posted April 3, 2009 Currently using a headphones/desktop mic setup. After going through pair after pair of shitty headset combos, the desktop mic and separate headphones works great. http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/produ...transid=newHD-2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16836111601

Mana 3,867 #15 Posted April 4, 2009 My wife is going to go crazy she says unless I switch to headphones. Does anyone know of a good mid dollar range 5.1 headphone with mic that works great with TF2. I tried just browsing the internet but just get confused. Get a 7.1 sound system like a real man! Then tell your wife to enjoy it. That's my suggestion. I enjoy my sound system and following that logic... everyone would!
boywonder03 2 #16 Posted April 4, 2009 My wife is going to go crazy Don't wifes come pre-crazed? That was always my understanding anyways And how can she her your setup over the vacuum? I have a 5.1 system now and enjoy it very much. She hates the announcer..... not the first person to hear that from. I have heard that you don't really get directional sound from the 5.1 headphones, that is partly what this thread was about for me. I have a set of stereo headphones right now and they work?????? I think that after reading the posts on this thread that I have two options. 1.A high dollar set of stereo headphones 2.Move my wife's computer into another room. FunkyFresh 68 #19 Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Move your wife's comp into another room. You're thinking about either spending money or doing a little "Back to the Kitchen" action? C'mon. Edited April 5, 2009 by FunkyFresh

Cpt0bvius 0 #21 Posted April 8, 2009 You should give these a shot I've got a pair of the analog ones before they went to the gamecom series(before i had the horrible logitech ones that i'm guessing fried rice is still using) and i'm thinking on upgrading to the 5.1 since i have a replacement plan on mine. They are extremely comfortable and dont look like ass like the fatality ones do.

Ahhhhhhh.... this was the part of my question I was most curious about; the 5.1 thing. There seems to be a lot of confusion about that. Has anyone actually tried a pair of the 5.1's. Do they give you directional sound from behind like my regular speakers do? Most the threads that I read were 50/50.
Miyari 33 #25 Posted April 12, 2009 The directional sound in my Sennheisers is amazing. It's good for identifying specials' locations in L4D and camping in 2fort's sewers. ^^
