Noggin 0 #1 Posted June 16, 2009 For your consideration: ctf_timbertown Its quite an open CTF map. An initial playtest was done, its chaotic for the first 5-10mins then people get sick of getting their ass kicked and start playing a real game Download: ctf_timbertown_b1f (2009-06-14): http://s90652007.onlinehome.us/tf2/ctf_timbertown_b1f.7z New in Beta 1f: * Added more health and ammo packs * Added skybox * Optimized a bit more * Increased balcony outside Intel room To do list: * Add more team area coloring * Add general detail * Optimize more * May make an arena version Please leave feedback here. Enjoy! Noggin
mitpatterson 3 #2 Posted June 16, 2009 looks cool, is there a server currently running it that we(namely myself) could go try it out on first
Noggin 0 #3 Posted June 16, 2009 Ive playtested it on Feared Gamers, Nomnomnom (Rattys) and Ducksoup but its not in their rotation, it may be on the mapvote.

Miyari 33 #6 Posted June 16, 2009 For the Customs Map server we SHOULD have. Come on, Mana, the donators are getting bored - at least promote some variety in their TF2 experience. Grab like 8-12 Custom maps, throw some more in for variety, allow map voting, clean the list up, and voila. A customs server (with proper map rotation) would probably be full most of the time (I know I'd play it to get some change from the constant Badwater/Dustbowl/Steel monotony). It's lame that the vast majority of our community is limited to the stock maps because they like to play on Lotus servers with their friends and by doing so miss out on like 98% of the maps available for play in TF2. Thrillhouse 1 #7 Posted June 16, 2009 I would be interested in a custom maps server as long as the custom maps were good. Donation privileges would need to be extended to a custom server as well!

Well said. Nothing is more frustrating for mappers than making a map that is well received yet does not become part of any rotation... until Valve picks it up for an update. friedrice 8 #9 Posted June 16, 2009 I used to make maps for Duke3d and Quake. I stopped for a couple reasons. 1 being that making good maps is a lot of work. 2 is that there weren't really anywhere to host. Obviously Lotus is big enough and has enough regulars to give some exposure to aspiring map makers. Maybe in order to decide what custom maps will make it, there should be a committee of sort where we would play test the map. This would greatly assist map makers because they would be able to have 12-24 people see how the map actually plays out, and provide feedback. Obviously maps wouldn't have to be perfect to make it on the server, but we could update the map as submitted by the author. Also there are enough regulars of lotus who would draw in the new comers when they see a custom server near full. On a side note, please no Orange box or mario kart. Both those maps suck and the mario kart one just gives the racer a bad name

Oh hell's yeah. I totally support this. There are really some great custom maps out there that kick the crap out of the stock maps picked by Valve. Also I think having a custom maps server would help the influx of donators.
Miyari 33 #11 Posted June 16, 2009 It's real simple - for Lotus Clan practice, we try out custom maps and then feedback on which should make it into rotation. At least then something useful would be getting done during practice.

Spartan_0214 18 #16 Posted June 16, 2009 I think most of the Regulars are gonna stay on Stocks (either one or two, not having random crits is a great thing). Typically, if Hoodoo or Pipeline pass, we leave and go to the other Stock server. Then again, a few of us are getting bored of Stocks. I only speak for myself when I say that I am not going to play on a Custom server, unless Mana invites me.

Miyari 33 #23 Posted June 18, 2009 It's just dumb that people like us spend as much time as we do playing TF2 but a shocking amount have yet to experience the beauty of things like pl_cashworks and pl_frontier and annoying fucking travesties like cp_toy_fort. It would also be fun to see some maps in rotation that are frequently played competitively and in 6v6 format such as cp_gydan, cp_freight and cp_broma. Hell, it would even give excuse to bust out the TFC remake maps (RIGHT NKET?). Every time my old server did a 'Classic Night' event the server was packed the entire time (running remakes of maps like Avanti, Crossover, Casbah, etc.) Now instead of trying to dedicate an entire server to them we can just run events and become more positively involved with the community - maybe that's something Nket would feel like doing, I sure as hell would. VARIETY. Also, .
Noggin 0 #24 Posted June 18, 2009 It will take the popular servers like this to ween players on to new maps. cp_freight is also a good map... maybe start with a list of candidates and run a poll?
