Anybody Planning On Getting This Headset?

Recommended Posts

A shitload of people disagree that you can get any surround sound from headphones. There are threads, posts, articles everywhere with all kinds of opinions about it. It seems to run about 50/50. I ran a post about headphones a while ago trying to see if I could get any info from people that use headphones and play tf2. I am curious to hear about this as well. My regular 5.1 logitech speakers work pretty good for tf2..... I seem to play about the same with just stereo headphone speakers on though?

Yeah. Its true. The best quality 3D sound can not convert a retard to a pro gamer. I could give some of these guys a $500,000 state of the art sound system and their KDR would still never go above 1:1 in a million years.

LOL name all the headsets you have used. I agree the HD-5XX series are pretty awesome. They are quite comfy.

Logitech had the concept down. I heard they weren't that comfortable or that great sounding. I hate hot ears. The open air ones from Sennheise 500s arent that bad. I owned a pair of Sennheiser HD-280 noise canceling ones, too bad they were pretty much suction cups and prevented ANY air flow.

I really want these, but even for a Chemical Engineer, it seems like too much spendage...

What do you do, beat small children with them in-between gaming sessions? O_o

I've gone through 3 sets in the past... age. Current set has a broken ear, but still works fine.

Wouldn't chance using an inner-ear device like that. I'm sure wearing my headphones as much as I do is enough damage to my hearing.

Edit: I'd say get the latest Sennheisers for however much they are. It'd be a costly spend but you wouldn't be getting another pair of headphones anytime soon..(hope you aren't rough with your stuff ;P) and the sound..don't get me started on the sound, ha ha.

Source's sound system is pretty bad. It seems to support something like 4.0 channels in total. No subwoofer and definitely no 7.1 surround sound. Crysis on the other hand has complete support for 7.1 (.1 = including the subwoofer channel).

When it comes to Source... I tried 7.1 surround with HDMI, Optical and 8 Analogue cables (1 for each channel) on quite a few pcs both mine and friends and haven't really seen it go above 4.0/5.0.

So either way... this 7.1 headset is pretty much useless when used in valve's `awesome` engine.

The only time I've seen "5.1" in source was when using one of those creative speaker systems with just 1 or 2 plugs that somehow magically turn everything into "surround".

I'm currently using a Sennheiser PC 350 and I have absolutely no desire to use another headset, ever. This thing is comfortable as hell and sounds great. Razer is supposed to be sending me more free crap to test, so if I end up with one of those headsets I'll let you guys know how it is.

I don't think I could ever justify spending $150+ on a headset...

So.... has anyone ever got surround sound from a set of headphones? In Crysis maybe?

Based on your post (and additional research) I ordered and started using the PC350 headphones a few days ago. Comfort is the big issue for me, and I've found "on the ear" headphones to be uncomfortable after a few hours (mostly because I wear glasses). I'm happy with the PC350's... besides being more comfortable, they also sound great. They're pricey but at least I'll use them... I once spent something like $200 on Plantronics wireless headphones that I used for an hour before giving up on them.

Dont forget the leather jacket and sunglass.
