I don't see Valve shoving anything up anyone's nose. As Ljubica said, they're going about their business. It's how other software houses operate, they're doing nothing unexpected...they're just giving the general public a heads up on progress. Microsoft do exactly the same thing, unless you are a partner or in the industry you won't be invited to that either (trust me you don't want to go to them unless you have a real need to, I go to them routinely).

OK, all I am saying is if you were invited I think you would find discussions and presentations about technical frameworks, system architecture and possibly even examples of low level code dull and you probably would feel a little out of your depth and not be able to contribute. As a software engineer of 12 years and owner of a software company I know I would...I'd love to go but I'd quite quickly be lost as although I play the games my knowledge is based on software related to finance and physics, not games and/or Valve's back catalogue. I'm not having a pop at you Marisa, just sayin'

I like that Valve are doing this and being open and involved with specialists in the community. Note I said specialists. They want to get something out of this too through feedback from people they recognise as understanding how Valve operate and create their software, and also being able to create software which integrates with their existing systems and back catalogue.
