D-Bee 3,448 #953 Posted October 1, 2016 Fever mentioned that there could be more descriptions that I give out of settings and people. This is a good idea, and it's something that I mean to do but often don't because of whatever reason. I'll try to be more descriptive going forward. What would you all like to see more of in the game? What would you like to see less of (if anything)? Are there any questions, or is anything unclear at this point? Yeah, I didn't mean that you should necessarily do it though man, I was making an example of how I want to improve as a player but the example I used was a GM in a group I watch sometimes who has a very good knack for staying in character and making it look effortless. I think you're doing an awesome job man....keep it up. I'm going to try and describe what my characters doing...rather than what I want to happen next for my character....e.g. instead of saying "I go and talk to the councilmen", I'd much rather say something like "I walk over to the bar, 'Barkeep, is there any way I can contact the local big wig in this town, I'm looking to find someone who has all his fingers in all the pies if you know what I mean" and continue from there in the moment rather than past or future tense...so roleplaying it out rather than describing what I've just attempted to do. It's hard doing it though without feeling like you're hogging all of the time of the GM, so you obviously can't do it all the time or everything would take a long time to play out...which is why I like to say nothing some times for extended periods to give others there chance to do stuff. koKo_ 350 #955 Posted October 2, 2016 I don't know if this is because the sessions aren't very long, the encounters aren't very often, or there just haven't been many BBEG's (Big Bad Evil Guys, basically bosses, I'll refer to them as that usually lel I'm a nerd) but the exp gain seems to be pretty low. Having played for several months now I would've thought you would at least be level 6 and halfway to 7 or more. Again this could be due to a lot of factors, and I'm not saying dump a ton of exp out each session, but the whole progression of the game is to level up and take on bigger monsters

Never worry that you're cutting into my time. The game is for the players, and ultimately you get out of it what you put in. There's a lot more to being a player than most people think. For example: Do the other members of the party even know Annun well enough to notice if he were acting out of character? That ring he's got could end up being the death of the party if something isn't done about, and that starts with communication. Do any of your characters know why Greycastle got so pissed off? Again, this is stuff that can be discussed in character between party members - and it can often lead to interesting side quests and adventures! 15 hours ago, koKo_ said: I don't know if this is because the sessions aren't very long, the encounters aren't very often, or there just haven't been many BBEG's (Big Bad Evil Guys, basically bosses, I'll refer to them as that usually lel I'm a nerd) but the exp gain seems to be pretty low. I tend to be more conservative with boss style characters because: 1) There are very few of them 2) If they aren't rare, then they aren't really bosses 3) I like the genuine "pants shitting" response when the party realizes they may all die horrible deaths I wouldn't worry too much about it honestly. It's only a few days into the campaign in game time, and if you compare that to say...Lord of the Rings, you guys haven't even formed the fellowship yet. I'd like the players to grow attached to their characters, and the characters to each other before I mercilessly slaughter them all...it's more painful that way. BloodRedWidow 3,508 #958 Posted October 2, 2016 Personally, I'm enjoying our sessions. I think the pacing is good, the characterisation of npcs are good, and I like how DB let us discuss what to do and lets us decide for ourselves what to do with very little input from him. I like that. The only suggestion I'd make is I think DB should target specific events/items/npcs at individual players a bit more. Eg, our last game focused on Greycastle a bit more because of Dorn. I liked that, it helped us to get to know her and her character a bit more. Perhaps you could do the same with Fever? Or another suggestion could be an event that links significantly with our trinkets? Other than that, I'm happy with the way things are.

On the question at hand: I'm not sure if we need more description of boobies, but the way this party goes, it might be nice to have a set of cleavage pictures for reference. Like, "Khuntata has a set #5". Would really be helpful. #NotSoSeriousSuggestion That aside, i'm kinda wondering if you shouldn't do more secret rolls and whispers... not everyone in the party needs to know everything else that's happening with the individual characters.

Reveal hidden contents I have on occasion whispered DB as I felt like I was kind of hogging the discord channel...it's a good idea, especially for certain circumstances where people might not be in the immediate vicinity.

I like the occasional overlaps with our back stories, it feels natural and not as contrived as it might be if we do something one week and next week we have to fight a legion because gold/baddies etc. The way things are going it has the potential to play out to be quite a tale, rather than a forced series of events and incidents. A good tale is what you'll take away from a good campaign. I can't see me taking much away from a series of meaningless fights. Plus what we do in this campaign, including if we ultimately live or die, makes the lore for our world going forward...if we decide to continue and at the moment I see no reason why we would not. I'm trying to flesh out my character with unexpected behaviour and eccentricities...I felt the first few sessions I was relying too much on being led by DB and doing what was expected (e.g. just following the story, not really deviating, not giving my character any flavour/life..,). DB creates our world, but it's up to us to really live in it and make it come alive. Edited October 8, 2016 by fever

fever 9,884 #972 Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) From Thoradin's point of view: We went about it the wrong way....I was so close to just walking out of the caves....it was a disaster waiting to happen, which then happened. You can't assault a base by walking towards the threat with no plan and hitting things. We're heroes, not infrantry who don't use our brains...we relied too heavily on our muscle to do the work and we didn't really plan for our environment...our muscle quite quickly got beaten down, we had no plan, we started fighting amongst each other and it descended into chaos...is this how we made our name? How people came to respect and fear us? From my point of view: I could see what was gonna happen one hour after we started and despite requesting we change the plan, we carried on for another two hours. It was kind of boring because there was no role play aside from DB, just dice rolling and hoping for the best so after ninety minutes and three requests to change what we were doing without anyone listening I kind of gave up for most of the session. I think we can honestly do better, but maybe I'm expecting too much *shrugs*. In short, I don't think we acted like the heros we're supposed to be playing, we just trudged along doing stuff without really thinking about it other than "kill stuff"...we quite quickly found out from DB who had a plan, that our plan was pretty piss poor. I've enjoyed all of our sessions but that last one was drawn out, a bit dull mostly...and the ending was inevitable. We nearly lost 3 heros pretty quickly in game time. Success? +Dr. Obvious 14,606 #973 Posted October 9, 2016 I don't fully agree, Feves. I agree on "we went in without a plan". I was more thinking of sneaking ahead or something, but let myself get distracted by "i go in first". Well. You don't easily say "no" to someone clad in metal that weights probably 3 times as much as you do. (And Skaila's nickname from now on shall be Zarya). The fight between the Bard and the Rogue was coming a long time, and yeah, it did happen in the most stupid moment, but that was probably because of too much roleplay. I didn't exactly think it was a brilliant idea to backstab the bard in mid - fight, but see it from Annûn's side: guy made a bad entrance, then basically does something that damages Annûn and Greycastle from behind while bugbears are attacking from the front... my char is basically convinced this bard is a fake sent by Greycastle's Arch Enemy. So yeah. Questions will need to be answered if he wakes up. Erm. I meant to say "when"... >.>

I honestly don't see what I called incorrectly, in character or otherwise. Did you find it a rewarding session where we all really thought about what we were doing? I don't..it smacked very much of "yeah whatever". Admittedly, if we do have a mole in the camp, I didn;t see that coming but it doesn't excuse the terrible approach we took at taking on a serious NPC. This isn't a pop at you man, I just want to fully understand your point of view. Edited October 9, 2016 by fever
