I think when it comes to peripherals, there's not a 'better' - for example at 5'1 I have tiny hands, so I opt towards smaller sized keyboards/mice. I have used a mouse before where I wasnt able to click the mouse buttons because my fingers were too small to reach them properly. (it was a very big oddly shaped mouse) likewise with keyboards, the slimlined ones work better for me.

As for headsets, I always go for this type: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-PC363D-Surround-Over-Ear-Headset-Black/dp/B008O515CK/ref=sr_1_13?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1424083032&sr=1-13

As my ears fit completely inside the hollow part, allowing me to wear stud earrings while gaming. (Sigh girls!)

As for monitor - currently using the 24 " one my parents got me last xmas, and my 2nd one broke. Upgrading my PC and getting a 27" monitor as my main this spring/summer. Currently saving for this.

Up until the summer last year when I actually got a job, I'd been using a cheap mouse and keyboard combo that I picked up in Tesco. I still use the same keyboard, it's just that my mouse now has more buttons. I have a headset but it's nothing special and I only wear it when I am forced to use VoIP because the ear-bits squash my glasses into the side of my head. It's a hard-knock life.

I have a Razer (Deathadder) mouse and I'm very happy with it so far.  I've heard good things about the SteelSeries gear.  I have a non mechanical keyboard which is illuminated and very quiet which I prefer.  Nice gear though...I think it takes everyone a while to find their preference.

Obviously some peripherals are considered good or Bad techwise, but for you it should be important if you get along with your setup.

I got a completely new setup cause my other one simply didn't suit my hands and playstyle.

If you got money and want to upgrade, get a 120/160hz monitor. In my expirience gettong a better monitor was the biggest plus.

Just get what you can afford and feels comfortable. Peripherals won't instantly make you a better gamer, but it will surely enhance your comfort on using the gear.

My stuff:

Mouse: SteelSeries Rival

Not a bad mouse, used to have a Logitech G500 until it died (RIP). My brother also has a rival and he likes it.

Keyboard: CM Storm QF Rapid TK Reds

I'd probably get a different key type, maybe blues for the click lol. But I'll definitely stick with a tenkeyless to keep room on my desk available. Plus I have a 10key USB somewhere laying around.

Mousepad: SteelSeries QcK Heavy

I used to have the regular QcK, but the heavy is almost 2x larger or so and thicker, love this to no end with my semi-low sens.

Headset: Logitech G930

I would not recommend these. I've gone through about 4 of these, luckily Logitech support is decent. I'd actually suggest if you want a good audio and a mic get actual headphones and a standalone microphone for cheap, or splurge and get a snowball mic or w/e.

Monitors: BenQxl2420te @144Hz, and ASUS VG278HE 27" @144Hz

Monitors are amazing, once you go 120/144Hz you'll never wanna go back. That said. 1080p on 27" feels weird to me so I use the ASUS as a side monitor. I probably don't need to have it at 144hz as a side monitor, but you'll know how ugly dragging windows is at 60Hz.

^^Just proof you can have good gear and be bad B)
