+Henry Spencer 117 #1 Posted May 3, 2009 Having only played FPS for most of my life, I'd have to say Doom 3 is the scariest thing I've played. Playing Nightmare, trying to find your way through the darkness, armed only with a flashlight, health slowly diminishing... man, that raised my blood pressure and got the adrenaline pumping. I own Silent Hill 2 and an Xbox, but for some reason, I have not played it yet. I'll have to do that this summer; I've heard some people were really spooked out by it. Krash 1,040 #2 Posted May 3, 2009 I'd have to agree with you on Doom 3. That was some scary shit.

+Henry Spencer 117 #4 Posted May 3, 2009 I... don't understand the NES one. I don't remember much from being a kid, so idk if I would've been scared of that or not.
friedrice 8 #5 Posted May 3, 2009 Sesame Street for the NES.I wish I was kidding. That game looks like something from Castlevaina. Anyway, Doom 3 has a lot of freaky moments, but I think my scariest moment was when playing Doom II and running into one of those invisible bulls for the first time. All the sudden I was getting hit, I turn around, and there's a freakin invisible bull chomping on me. Then from there on out, I was freaked out while making sure all the rooms were cleared of those demon things. Funny how crappy graphics can still set a mood, although they were top of the line at the time

h3gi 5 #9 Posted May 3, 2009 I guess from a five-year-old's perspective, the freaky blips and bloops coupled with the environments that made you feel like the last man on earth were too much to handle. The repetitive actions and tones littered throughout seemed indicative of an unseen infernal machine, and I would dread making any action that would reenact any said actions. The "victory" music and dance conveyed Big Bird's solemnity of being trapped forever in a dark, 2D circus, completely stripped of all reason for existence. To be fair, Parasite Eve should be my real answer, but I never actually played it; I just watched my sister play it. Or at least part of it; I usually refused to enter the room if I knew she was playing. I'm still trying to find an emulator for it to play though. Mana 3,867 #11 Posted May 3, 2009 doom 3 screenshot true story It's called: A) Duct tape flashlight mod. Co-op mod.
FunkyFresh 68 #12 Posted May 4, 2009 aye, won't play doom 3 without those.
+Henry Spencer 117 #13 Posted May 4, 2009 But that takes the fun out of it! The way I see it is: 1. Technology has evolved to the point where duct tape is obsolete and no longer made, and 2. Everyone else in the base is dead already, so there can't possibly be any co-op.

+Henry Spencer 117 #15 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) But did you ever see any duct tape in the game? I sure didn't. I mean, I just can't believe they would still have a use for it in a time period where... they've managed to develop chainsaws that can run forever. well fuck, I lost my train of thought. I'll come back to this, probably. Oh, and, shotguns that can get 2 rounds out of 1 shell. Edited May 4, 2009 by Henry Spencer

JonasV 9 #18 Posted May 7, 2009 I would have to say Dead Space, but then again I haven't played many truly scary games. Dead Space was definitely high tension throughout and managed to startle me several times. One of the best games I've ever played though.

The flashlight and the weapon... well I'm pretty sure those two are made from metal.
Miyari 33 #23 Posted May 9, 2009 I remember playing Doom on my SNES (I don't think I had a PC that could run it, and my friends' parents wouldn't let Doom II be installed on their computer because I DO NOT NEED TO BE PLAYING THE GAMES OF THE DEVIL) and I would have to take breaks because it was like omg blood pressure freakout. Strangely, I'm more jumpy and easily startled now than when I was 9.
lightbeats 0 #24 Posted May 21, 2009 I'm going to go with F.E.A.R when that first came out, playing it alone at night with a headset on. Never again. The new one I didn't find as atmospherically scary, but that's a great game. A close second for me is Condemned 2: Bloodshot. I think it was made by the same guy as F.E.A.R, and there are certain moments in that game that I still get creeped out over. I think I might remember it being worse than it actually is because I sat with a mate playing it from start to finish at night and we were trying to be scared, if that makes sense.
