Nos 0 #1 Posted October 15, 2006 Norton does the job quite not the level I need. A full system scan doesn't reveal a trojan, but after a few minutes, my laptop puts up a red window telling me that it detected a virus (infostealer, which steals passwords and usernames) and puts it in a quarantine. I erase it from the quarantine and later a new one gets detected. I tried everything from safe mode to deactivating sytem restore but I couldn't find the executable file that is making these. It seemed endless. Even the step by step removal instructions from the Symantec Website is worthless. I was about to give up to thinking of nuking it back to its original factory settings when I was advised that I try AVG Trial Edition which is free. So I downloaded it and had it scan my whole Hard Drive and it detected 9 trojans in my sytem 32. I deleted them as well but I felt disgusted in Norton for not being able to detect them there for they only detected them in my Temp folder (cookies). So right now my laptop is quiet. But I am still waiting for the old symptoms (Norton's red window) if they will reappear. If it does, it means even AVG failed me. So what are your antivirus software guys? What do you think is the best? I heard that Mc Afee is considered the best according to reviews. And an advise to how to combat these nuiances will be greatly appreciated. Nos 0 #4 Posted October 15, 2006 Yep but someone turned off my firewall without my knowledge then so I remember, one scan revealed 17 viruses. Aaargh! Well it appears that AVG and Norton won't get along with each other. They both detected a new strain in my Temp just right now and both wont budge on each other on who's to fix it that I had to put up Windows task manager and end task Norton. Then opened my folder in the Temp section and pressed delete on that dll file. Shoot. I wonder how can I fix this. I must find the host, not the babies. The Virus name is Klone. Time to google for some more answers. :angry: *edit* Just found some new info and I am currently working on it. I am currently using NAV 2006 in my laptop and Computer Association Antivirus from SBC internet in my laptop. I don't know how good they are but I am sure that I never have a virus. Some tips: Every time you scan for viruses, turn off system restore and do it in safe mode! Do not restore your computer after the scanning. Thank you! nDoroKanjeng 0 #7 Posted October 16, 2006 I'm using McAfee, so i'm vote for it. NAV is hard to run in my comp. Every anti virus is good if they're always up2date. But now i have trouble with a virus called MyRose. That virus deleting my McAfee and a new anti virus when i try to install. It kill my AV. {HeRo}GeneralDS 4 #9 Posted October 18, 2006 i personally prefer norton..mine is up2date and the last thing it detected was adware called movieland...also it stopped several worms from installing themselves (2 of the Alcra family of worms) and it has stopped other risks in the past for me...i also noticed that one of my previous anti spyware programs couldnt remove a high risk hijacker (a coolwebsearch variant) until i figured out that it was my smiley central thing that was its cause, so i removed it and then it no longer detected it, it was trend micro antispyware and it always restarted my computer when it tried to remove it but after restart it was still there...but with norton i have stopped alot of risks and other threats...thank u norton antivirus!! P.S. if any of u use limewire or other file sharing programs, watch out for exe and zip files because they sometimes contain worms, trojans, and viruses...two zip files i tried getting from limewire contained WinAlcra.b and WinAlcra.f, almost installed version f twice but norton stopped it and i deleted it...norton deleted version b for me and now i am cautious when i download a zip file, i check inside the zip to make sure that what i want was in there (if u look in a zip file and it only contains the exe file setup with nothing else in there and u got it off of a filesharing network, then its most likely a worm...and firewalls prevent u from playing br effectively so my firewall is DISABLED!!) my family uses a router but i configured it to allow br to run on my computer (which explains my ability to host now but also could explain y i have zero ping most of the time) so norton works the best for me... many thanks goes to the WinAlcra family of worms and whoever their makers are, for ur miserable attempts to wreck my computer...now dont try it again or else u shall pay the price of DELETION!!
