+Dr. Obvious 14,606 #711 Posted December 18, 2013 Extract from an article on Kotaku.com When foreign cultures talk about Japan, they usually talk about anime and / or manga. Usually, it's anime. Anime is terrible. It used to be okay. Now, it's not. It's inbred trailer-trash in entertainment form: Every season's new Japanese animation places one-upmanship of every single aspect of the last season higher on their list of priorities than even "make something entertaining." The same can perhaps be said of all Japanese entertainment, though it's not relevant anywhere else as much as it is in anime. Anime used to answer the questions of kids' dreams: "How awesome would it be to be a world-class assassin / kung-fu master / robot pilot / baseball hero?" Now it's just a bunch of shit pandering to perverts and pedophiles. Anime heroes used to be people with amazing job descriptions; now they're reasonably young men who find themselves miraculously sharing houses with a dozen girls aged six to nine, accidentally almost touching every other scene. Or else it's just guys with huge hair and impossible weapons shouting jargon. Long ago, manga aspired to be like Dragon Ball Z: graphically iconic, with a story more coherent than it probably needed to be. Now there's the ADHD-addled Dragon-Ball-Z-inspired One Piece, a manga for the Twitter age if there ever was one.
+Skaila 5,462 #712 Posted December 18, 2013 Can I just add that I like Bleach, but I stopped watching when they got to heaven or wherever it was. So many damn fillers Also I still say Wolf's Rain is pretty damn nice visually. >>

The more you know ._.  Anyway, I kinda agree with it, but not completely. "Dragon Ball Z inspired One Piece" I mean seriously... One Piece has been around for pretty long. And it barely is Dragon Ball Z inspired, except for fighting and inhuman powers. Though I agree that the Sexism in Anime is a shitty thing. Girls are supposed to be all cute and weak so the 15 year old boy with 1 pubic hair and wild black hair gets all the girls by being awkwardly shy. I don't like that, romance is a thing that should be kept romantic, not forced down people's throat by adding a new girl every episode that "mysteriously" is totally in love with the protagonist, too. For me a good romance is when the relationship takes it's time. Let them grow to like each other, become good friends and later start to have feelings for that person. Not "hot girl, like. Wanna bang, no wait, gotta go fast" Edited December 19, 2013 by Elise

ultr@BUNNY 8,565 #722 Posted December 25, 2013 Just finished watching Steins;Gate movie. Watch it now. It's amazing. (Well I might be a bit biased...) Â It's indeed a great movie, not amazing as I thought after watching it (I even gave it a 10/10 at the time), but great nevertheless. I had to think if I could put it at the level of movies such as The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Wolf Children, Grave of the Fireflies, etc, and I just couldn't... To be brutally honest, the movie suffered from being short, slow at the start and very rushed near the ending, when dealing with time travel you need one thing...time, and unfortunately 1h30min is just not enough. Â Still... the movie deserves a big 9/10, and is an absolute recommendation after you watched Steins; Gate and the special Oukoubakko no Poriomania.
