I have a license to carry and do so every day. Never had to pull it but I'm happy to know that if I did have to do so and kill someone in self defense to stop an event or protect myself or my family I couldn't be dragged into court by the survivor's family or go off to prison for a simple act of protection. Those protections are a direct result of "stand your ground" and other laws.

I have a concealed carry permit, too, and carry probably 95% of the time. I've never had to draw my weapon either and the only people who know I'm carrying are my friends and family. Ever since I was 10 years old, I was allowed to go hunting in the woods by myself with a shotgun or a rifle and I've never had an incident where I discharged a firearm and felt afterwards that doing so was unsafe. My father always driled gun safety into my head and that I should always be aware of my surroundings. No one will ever take this right from me.

Folks, it's not about having a gun. You can have all the guns you want. I personally don't like them, but that is my opinion on them. There's even good reasons for that, especially because of your laws, but i think you don't want to hear them anyway.

Stop defending yourself. I don't want to take away your tools. You can love them, use them, play with them, sleep with them if you want to, and as long as you don't point them at me, i am okay with it. My statement is still true. The same statement could go with explosives, knifes, short metal bars (my favourites), waraxes. Your pick. It's not about the right to have guns, ffs.

The point is: you should always be responsible for what you do. If you follow someone and corner him and then claim self-defense when it comes to a fight is just plain stupid. You actively chose to create a situation where it is highly probable that you will have to fight. That's not self-defense. That's not "standing your ground".

That would be like a couple of thugs going after you and then claiming "self defense" for doing so.

nobody is hiding the fact they have a shotgun, also you aren't allowed to walk around carrying a loaded firearm just because you feel like it

lastly, the original comment, that i feel i have no reason to own a gun is the variable that would change in the US, based solely on the fact that it is so easy to obtain, that so many people have them. And there lies the problem, In Canada, just nobody has handguns, nobody carries a gun around with them... so nobody else has to carry one around to feel safe, or for "peace of mind"

Each year the US homocide is 5.5 per 100,000 people which translates to 17 thousand. I am sure there are plenty of interracial killings and I don't see why this one got blown out of proportion. Are there racial stereotypes in America? Yes. But blowing this out of control just makes it worse. It just amplifies tension between races. If you want Black people to not have negative stereotypes, change the fact that that Black men are 8x more likely to go to jail than White counter parts.

Same with Asians. We get stereotyped for being shy, weak, beta. Instead of complaining. Go to the fucking gym, get some muscles and learn to be alpha, take a public speaking class. If everyone did that, stereotypes would change.

Well that I find sad. I doubt this thread will cause drama, I think we can all defend our points of view without being extremely offended or flipping out. I have spoken some of my points, and if Zimmerman did act in self defense, than I so no reason why this trial has become such a big deal. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Correct it should have never made it to the media at all. Thank the race baiters Sharpton, and Jackson just to name 2 for making it a racial circus. What's sad is in Chicago over the July 4th weekend they had 45 Black on Black shootings with 11 murdered. But will the lame stream media report it? of course not, its not racially motivated to keep Sharpton relevant. I watched hour after hour of that trial live. I think the % of all blacks getting shot and or killed is 94% by other black.
