Sergeant Wolfi 122 #1 Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) I am about to buy a new headphone for gaming and i don't know which one should get. The "SENNHEISER HD558" or the "BOSE SoundTrue Around-Ear". Both seem to have good audio. The Sennheiser has a nice cushion and the Bose is really light weight. Which one should I buy? BOSE SoundTrue Around-Ear SENNHEISER HD558 New competitor (New Version of the Sennheiser HD 558) Sennheiser HD 598 Edited March 30, 2015 by Sergeant Wolfi
Nirrox 358 #2 Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) I never had a Bose headset, so i cant really compare it, but i had quite a few Sennheiser headsets over the past years and never had any problems. Since i'm not a fan of the Bose design i'd go for the Sennheiser ( i know thats a weak reason, but hey, its a reason ) E/ oh, and its a bit cheaper as well^^ Edited March 29, 2015 by Nirrox
fever 9,884 #3 Posted March 29, 2015 I had some wireless Senn's once and the battery life was woeful, although the sound was excellent. Obviously yours are not wireless but still, it makes you wonder where else they cut corners. I've never owned a Bose headset but I did buy a Corsair Vengeance headset last November and it is superb. I don't think I'll ever buy a different brand now. It's amazing.
Infin 763 #5 Posted March 29, 2015 Bose are renowned for their sound. Poetry to my ears.
Cola Kid 230 #6 Posted March 29, 2015 I use these http://www.soundblaster.com/products/Sound-Blaster-Tactic3D-Wrath-Wireless.aspx the sound is good and the wireless range is great. Works from my computer to the other side of the house.
koKo_ 350 #7 Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) I would say Senns are better for gaming in general, bose is more renowned for sound quality. All comes down to what you prefer. Do you want better sound or a better overall gaming headset??? Edit: I'm not saying Senn has bad sound either, from what I've heard they're pretty good on sound also Edited March 29, 2015 by koKoRoro

Mana 3,867 #9 Posted March 29, 2015 I would suggest not getting anything bose. I made the mistake of getting something from them when I was younger. What with the price and "prestige" of the brand I assumed it would be a good use of my money. Nope. Bose was 3x the price (if not more) and the sound was subpar. Still is from what I read. Oh and if that wasn't enough the build quality turned out to be crap too. The sound control pod broke (or rather a cable inside it shorted out) and they would of charged me $100 to get it replaced. Those fuckers. Never again. Don't believe the hype.

+Dr. Obvious 14,606 #11 Posted March 29, 2015 The only problem i ever had with my Sennheiser is that the contact for the microphone broke (it's muted when you flip it up), but they fixed it instantly. That aside, a great headset. As for the Bose, i know they're great quality, but for the average person, the additional quality of sound doesn't really matter (the BOOOM is a BOOOM anyway, doesn't really matter if you hear all the plink-plink-plinks afterwards xD ). If you want to spent money, do it. But it's questionable if you'd hear the difference.

The noise canceling part and bass were good, but there are better options at that price point. (this was quite a few years ago, but I haven't heard of Bose getting better on their quality)
Domino 3,168 #13 Posted March 30, 2015 I have had sennheisers for the last 8 years, and they lasted fantastically, including running the cable over multiple times a day with my pc chair, having the cable sucked up the hoover, and having my niece use the mic for teething - ill admit the mic did stop working on my previous pair due to saliva build up - bless her. Never turned to anything else after I binned my Razor ones after a month due to how shit they were.
Sergeant Wolfi 122 #14 Posted April 16, 2015 Bought the Sennheiser HD 598 now. Its already has a nice sound and it should get even better after it burn in some time. X)
fever 9,884 #15 Posted April 16, 2015 You can get headphones which you can use to also play nothing but just block out all noise using noise cancellation. This has been linked with damaging your hearing though so I'd be wary of them in the future.
