Ruby 9,039 #1 Posted September 2, 2014 Article on Kotaku The open letter has been signed by hundreds of game developers, from Sony, EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Microsoft, indies and more. The letter reads: We believe that everyone, no matter what gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or religion has the right to play games, criticize games and make games without getting harassed or threatened. It is the diversity of our community that allows games to flourish. If you see threats of violence or harm in comments on Steam, YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook or reddit, please take a minute to report them on the respective sites. If you see hateful, harassing speech, take a public stand against it and make the gaming community a more enjoyable space to be in. Discuss.

Domino 3,168 #7 Posted September 2, 2014 There's a world of difference between telling me to get back to the kitchen and a prolonged and relentless tirade of rape/death threats and sexist comments. Where is the line drawn between banter and abuse? Everyone has a different skin thickness. I sometimes cross that line, we all do. We learn what people can and can't take. I personally respond badly to people talking about my weight and my glasses for example. I've learnt other people in lotus respond badly to other areas. I think on the whole the average decent human being upon discovering they hurt someone's feelings would apologise and attempt to a reasonably high degree to not do it again to someone. Learning is how we grow and mistakes are made. Unfortunately there are other humans out there who are malicious and cruel. That's why block buttons and bans are made. Each community and group online have admins responsible for removing people who intentional inflict repeated emotional harm to someone, no different to the police doing the same for someone offline. Tldr: some people need thicker skins and others need to stop being a massive %~#%

Minority groups and feminists complaining about exclusion or misrepresentation in video games, followed by psychopaths sending death threats in response. How do either of these sides affect me? This is just the tiniest fraction of people being very noisy.

Senor 280 #16 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) Does this have something to do with Zoe Quinn ? Not every game developer is an innocent person. Zoe Quinn did tell lots of shit to get her game on Steam (Depression Quest) which is just a text game ! (Wow, back to the old school) and then made up a story about internet getting her phone number and harassing her. Kobra Studio (the creator of the biggest sh*t you will ever see on steam, Island Light) threatened Jim Sterling for his bad review of Island Light. Innocent ? I don't think so. Developer of Air Control and Day One: Garrys Incident tried to pull the same sh*t. All of those devs deserve humiliation for their behaviour.  More about the Quinnspiracy: http://imgur.com/a/4VOcx Jim Sterling about corrupt Indie Devs: Edited September 2, 2014 by Señor

More about the Quinnspiracy: http://imgur.com/a/4VOcx Jim Sterling about corrupt Indie Devs: I haven't heard much about the Zoe incident (except Kotaku writing a post about her not sleeping with anyone for the review, but for the dick, or that might have been someone else). But I've learned to ignore sjws and their "hurr durr" extremist rage because generally speaking, much like all extremists, 9 times out of 10 they're making shit up, and that one time that their words have some truth in them, they're generally greatly exaggerated. Either way, it depends what game devs believe is "hateful, harassing speech". Surely this is good PR, but beyond that, does "I think Depression Quest is a shit game" (mentioning that game simply because of your comment) constitute as a 'hateful, harassing speech' or fair criticism? Surely saying something like "<insert name here> can go choke on a bag of dicks" is definitely a hateful comment, but as is evident from the imgur gallery you linked, hate goes both ways, and the more popular end usually gets their way. Also, half of these 18 posts were, mildly put, not really to the topic... Up until now, this hasn't been derailed, and a great majority of those posts were on topic (I'm sure you can scroll up instead of me linking them to you ) Either way, I'm posting threads for people to discuss, and if they don't want to, I'm okay with it, but that's also not a reason to be condescending about it and post bullshit Either way, I'd be thankful if we could get back to topic and take this part to Lotus Direct or PMs. If anyone else feels like it after this interruption. Ironic really... people being dicks on the internet in a topic about protests against people being dicks on the internet...  As the age old saying goes... if you aint got anything nice to say, don't say anything. Yes fine we are all entitled to your opinions but yes, we get it, there are 4-5 people in this clan who hate each others fucking guts... but really, we are all adults, grow up and stop this constant tirade of bullshit. It's fast becoming 50% of the topics become a god damn fucking shit stiring, back stabbing set of BS. I, along with a huge % of people are fucking sick of it. so cut it out.  I'm going to reiterate this again - you know who you are, just fucking stop - it's not even remotely interesting or amusing anymore, it's childish, pathetic, and quite honestly embarrassing to read.  You're adults, act like it.
